MINUTES OF ANNUAL PARISH MEETING OF RICHARDS CASTLE (SHROPSHIRE) PARISH HELD AT 7.00 PM ON TUESDAY 20 MAY 2025 AT THE VILLAGE HALL
PRESENT: Cllr. H Salwey (Chairman); Cllr. V Hawkins; Cllr. D Ayres; Cllr. A Hall; Cllr. R Smith; Cllr. A Wright; and fifteen (15) members of the public.
IN ATTENDANCE: PC M Linton, West Mercia Police; Ward Cllr. V Parry; and Mr R Hewitt, Clerk.
Cllr. H Salwey chaired the annual parish meeting.
1. Apologies – Cllr. A Cowell.
2. Minutes of the Annual Parish Meeting held on 16 May 2024 – The minutes of the meeting were agreed and signed as a correct record.
3. Report from the Ludlow South Ward Councillor, Shropshire Council
Ward Cllr. V Parry said Shropshire Council wants to work together with parishes and town councils – please say what you want to do. The proposal to have a playground at the village hall raises some concerns.
4. Annual Report from Richards Castle (Shropshire) Parish Council
Cllr. H Salwey, chairman, kindly reported on the year. The report is available with the parish council records.
5. Pedestrian access to village hall and new playground, such as clearer signage and traffic calming
Two members of the village hall committee kindly provided an overview of the location and plans for a playground at the village hall. If it were to proceed then planning permission would be applied for in due course.
A suggestion was made to consider moving the speed indicator display to a position by the hall. Dropped kerbs opposite the hall and improved road signs were proposed as well.
Several members of the public spoke at length against the playground. Ward Cllr. Parry also raised objections.
6. Items from Members of the Public
PC M Linton, West Mercia Police reported on local police matters, including an overview of operations and campaigns, and options to address speeding.
The meeting closed at 7.40 pm.
